With basketball season officially over, football season is officially on the clock. It won’t be long at all until Michigan fans can see the team in the Big House, as the Spring Game is set for April 18. It’s a fun weekend for the fans, and it’s a big one for the team, as spring ball gets wrapped up and a fair amount of important recruits come to town.
Spring game weekend is always a big one for recruiting, but the unofficial visits have been happening, and Michigan has been getting good reviews. Let’s
tackle the latest in today’s Recruiting Roundup.
Four-star CB raves about Michigan after visit
2027 four-star cornerback Blake Jenkins recently took an unofficial spring visit to Michigan, and it sounds like the Wolverines knocked it out of the park. There’s a long way to go in this recruitment, but the coaching staff definitely made good progress.
“Michigan was a great visit for me,” Jenkins told The Michigan Insider ($). “I liked the energy around the program and how everything is run. Being able to be around the coaches and see how they coach their defensive backs stood out the most. They showed a lot of love and it felt real. I also got a better feel for the campus and how I’d fit in there day to day. Overall, it was a great experience definitely a place I’m excited to get back to.”
Cornerbacks coach Jernaro Gilford is the primary recruiter for Jenkins, and he is working on getting an official visit scheduled.
“I’m working with coach JG on getting an official visit set up, so that’s in progress,” Jenkins said. “He told me a lot, but the main thing is he wants to develop all his guys well. Bringing in more young players who want to play early is a good thing the room will be full of competitive players.”
While football isn’t currently in season, Jenkins could tell that that the support from the fans in Ann Arbor is something that happens all year long.
“Michigan is definitely in the mix for me,” he said. “I like what they’ve got going. Honestly, one of the biggest things that stood out to me was just the support from the fan base. When we were touring the stadium, there was a Special Olympics event going on, and a kid came over and wanted to take a picture with me. That kind of caught me off guard, but it meant a lot. Just being able to take that moment with him, seeing how much it meant to him, it really showed me how much the people there support their players. That stuck with me.”
New QB target locks in Michigan visit
The biggest priority in terms of recruiting is locking in a 2027 quarterback. Four-star Dane Weber and four-star Illinois commit Kamden Lopati are Michigan’s top options, but there is another recruit in the mix as well.
That player is three-star Thaddeus Thatcher. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder is familiar with Michigan’s coaching staff, as he was originally committed to Utah before Kyle Whittingham and much of his staff left for Michigan. Now, Thatcher is thinking about sticking with that same staff he originally committed to and he will be in Ann Arbor this weekend.
“I am coming for a visit next weekend the 11th and 12th,” Thatcher told The Michigan Insider ($).
Thatcher had a good junior season out in his home state of Nevada, compiling 3,230 total yards, 36 total touchdowns and just five interceptions for Arbor View High School.
