In less than two months, we’re going to see Marquette women’s lacrosse back in action!
Head coach Meredith Black announced her team’s 2026 schedule on Thursday, and you better believe that it’s full of familiar names. Seven of Marquette’s 10 non-conference opponents were on the 2025 calendar and only one of the other three is a first time opponent for the Golden Eagles.
The first scheduled competition of the year is an exhibition at home against University of Chicago on January 31st, but the Golden
Eagles will officially get 2026 started with three straight home games starting on Friday, February 6th. That’s when Eastern Michigan comes to town to make it four straight seasons for some Eagle On Eagle violence. Marquette has won all three previous meetings, including 18-14 last year in Ypsilanti.
The next two contests are in the next seven days, both at home. Cincinnati is game #2, keeping Marquette’s run of seeing the Bearcats every season going. MU is 10-3 all time against UC, including wins in each of the last four. Then, on February 13, Central Michigan wraps up the home stand. The Golden Eagles are 9-2 all time against the Chippewas and they have won five straight in the series.
The next four are all on the road, but it’s not really a road trip. First up is at Northwestern on February 20th as Marquette tries for an 11th time to beat the Wildcats for the first time in program history. Then it’s at Arizona State just four days later as MU tries to make it two years in a row against the Sun Devils. After that, Marquette starts off March down in Florida to face Jacksonville for the first time ever. The last trip in the run here is at Youngstown State on March 6th. This will be the second ever meeting between the two squads after Marquette beat the Penguins in 2023.
Detroit Mercy comes to Milwaukee for Marquette’s next match, which is a Tuesday afternoon contest on March 10th. That’s two straight opponents where MU is undefeated, except they have 10 wins over the Titans, including in each of the last four seasons. After that, the Golden Eagles will pop out to New York to visit Niagara on March 14th for more Eagle On Eagle violence before Big East action starts.
Georgetown in the Valley will be the first Big East game of the year on March 21st, but Marquette will wrap up non-conference play two days later when they host UC Davis. MU is 2-0 against the Aggies after beating them 19-17 in 2023 and — this is true — 5-4 in overtime in 2015.
After that, it’s nothing but Big East matches. The league is a seven team affair, so there are six games in the regular season, and they’re split even home and road. However, with Georgetown already in the books, Marquette’s last five matches are three on the road and two at home, wrapping up the Milwaukee portion of the schedule on April 18th when Butler visits.
Tess Osburn is Marquette’s top returning attacker for 2026. She was second on the team in points last year with 64 on 45 goals and 19 assists. 64 points was good enough for the 10th best season in MU history, while the 45 goals tied for 8th most in a single season. Osburn will go into 2026 at #9 on the all-time points list and #7 in goals.
