According to a report from Tz journalists Mano Bonk, Philipp Kessler, and Hanna Raif (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), the agents for Bayern Munich center-back Dayot Upamecano suffered at least one “defeat”
in the negotiations, as the agreement — allegedly — includes a signing bonus of just €16 million rather than €20 million that Upamecano’s camp wanted. Maybe more importantly, the bonus will be prorated over the length of the four year contract rather than paid in a lump sum, one-time fee:
While his estimated new annual salary of approximately €20m gross remains unchanged, Dayot Upamecano’s agents suffered a ‘defeat’ in the negotiations. They were demanding a €20m signing fee in one instalment. But now they had to settle for ‘only’ slightly more than €16m, which will be spread over the duration of the new contract in several instalments.
What remains to be seen is if there is a “voidable years” situation with the bonus payment should any release clause get triggered. While doubtful, it is possible.
Regardless, this definitely would be a “win” for Bayern Munich, but the big news still mostly revolves around the release clause and the fee attached to it. We are all still eagerly awaiting that information.
