In no surprise whatsoever, most Broncos fans are concerned about Bo Nix’s vision on the field when trying to diagnose the offense’s problems in starting fast, scoring in general, or just getting third down conversions and moving the ball.
I do want to talk to the 4% interested in illegal spying though!
Sean Payton acknowledged after the Chargers game that there is only so much he can change about Nix’s mechanics when it gets to game day. So on a short week, practice is mostly about progressions…which
is good.
“You get to game day, and I don’t think you’re talking as much mechanics. I think you’re talking about, ‘What’d you see?’” Payton said. “Hopefully you planted the seed enough with the looks. That’s why today and tomorrow we’re walking through those looks, [which] are still invaluable that involve a progression.”
Going against the Seahawks’ defensive front is not going to provide Nix any time for overanalyzing, so the “one-two-three, let’s roll” is going to have to work.
Dan Orlovsky argued today that the three things Nix hasn’t done too well this season — play “crazy quick,” be completion driven, and dominate the pocket instead of running from it — are the three things he has to do to help the Broncos beat the Seahawks tonight.
After the Chargers win, Nix was critical of his play but not down on his overall performance.
“I don’t think it was my best, for sure. … There are definitely things there that we can clean up,” Nix said. “The game, the feel and the results of drives told me that it wasn’t necessarily pretty, but we just found a way to win.”
But Nix also is well aware of the need to improve. And his first goal for that is trying not to overanalyze…so he can play faster.
“I think just making it simple. Making things, ‘One, two, three.’ Let’s play fast, and let’s roll,” Nix said, noting that when he overthinks, he tends to make mistakes. “I want to have all the answers and get everything right, and it’s too difficult. 11 guys moving on defense, it’s tough to always figure it out. I do think I can make the game simpler and just get back to, ‘One, two, checkdown,’ that sort of thing and making sure my reads are on point.”
