Week 8 was back to the middle. The staff as a whole went 29-25, and the Commentariat actually got more than 1 game right! They tied with Andrew to lead the way at 6-3. VandyImport, Cole, and I were right behind
at 5-4. Tom and Christian were 4-5, so no one really had a bad week. For the season, Import has a 2-game lead over Andrew then it is 4 games back to Cole before another 2 games gets to the Nerd Herd and me. Tom is 1 behind me then it is another game back to Christian for a 10-game spread between 1st and last.
Last week, the real issues were everyone missing on Kentucky keeping it closer than 12.5 points against Texas and 5 of us (not YOU PEOPLE though) thinking Utah would beat BYU by at least 4 instead of losing outright. Georgia won by 8 as 7.5-point favorites over Ole Miss, which tripped up 4 staffers and the Commentariat. Tennessee not staying within 9.5 points of Alabama also sunk a quartet of us.
Week 9 is simply 7 SEC-SEC matchups along with the chosen Big XII game between BYU and Iowa State. Yes, the Mormons are getting a lot of run since they keep being involved in ranked games that are projected to be close. The staff has 1 unanimous selection and 2 games where only 1 of us disagrees on the result. The other 5 games are all split 4 to 2 with no even splits.
The Rules
- Normally, the picks are for all SEC games with one dealer’s choice where I get to choose another game to make us pick.
- The picks will be made AGAINST THE SPREAD. Too many games are easy to pick heads up. Also, this will serve as a PSA for why you should not get into sports gambling, which is especially important with sports gambling being legal in Tennessee now.
- The lines will be taken from FanDuel, who SB Nation has partnered with this season, some time Monday, so they may not match what is listed at the time this article is published. I may also use a backup for FBS-FCS matchups if the line is available elsewhere when I get the spreads.
