It’s June, it’s the quiet part of the offseason, but we still want to talk Seattle Seahawks football year-round. Actually, we’re obligated to do exactly that… anyway, you get the idea.
To kick off Monday, this discussion is about missing a Seahawks game live. I do not mean missing kickoff, or missing a few plays, or watching most of the game and then missing the end. My definition of missing a Seahawks game is not being able to watch it live from start to finish, whether on a screen or at the stadium.
It’s been a long, long time since I failed to watch the Seahawks. I’d just moved from the Seattle area to the East Coast in December 2012, which meant my last ever game as a Seattle resident was the 58-0 drubbing of the Arizona Cardinals. I was staying with relatives for the holidays, and it just so happened that some other relatives needed to be picked up on a Sunday afternoon. The Seahawks were playing the Buffalo Bills in Toronto, and none of the FOX affiliates in my area picked the game up. I’m pretty sure during this time I didn’t have a laptop and I definitely did not own a smartphone, which meant that I missed the whole of the Seahawks’ 50-17 demolition of the Bills. I was at the mercy of the score ticker until I had to leave to pick up relatives, and at the time I left the Seahawks were up 14-7.
You better believe when I got back I scrambled to my room to find out the final score.
I’m going strong on a 14-year streak of watching the Seahawks live and don’t intend for that to be broken any time soon.
