As the Portland Trail Blazers made multiple moves this summer, incumbent bench free agent Dalano Banton remained on the sidelines, unsigned. The unrestricted free agent played 67 games for the Blazers last
year, averaging 8.3 points and 2.4 assists in 16.7 minutes per appearance. Despite filling semi-significant bench role, the idea of re-signing the 6’9 point guard has apparently been a non-starter in Portland.
Today a short report came via X from international basketball correspondent Sotiris Vetakis indicating that Greek team Olympiacos could be interested in signing Banton to complete their backcourt. The Euroleague squad has had a history of success with titles and international players, including recently Evan Fournier and Isaiah Canaan.
Banton just completed his fourth NBA season. The 25-year-old has also played for the Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors.
The Blazers added veteran guards Jrue Holiday and Damian Lillard to their roster this summer, lessening the urgency for bringing another point guard off the bench.
