The Washington Commanders are visiting the Philadelphia Eagles this week, and they are 5.5-point underdogs in the season opener. This is a big game for both teams, and could set the tone for the NFC East for the rest of the season. Both teams have new offensive coordinators this season, but the Commanders also switched out defensive coordinators.
Jayden Daniels is returning from a disappointing, injury-riddles second season, and will look to reestablish himself as one of the top young QBs in the league.
New OC David Blough has been working with him to implement a new offensive scheme that will have him under center and using play-action more. The scrambling ability that helped him win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year will still be there, but expect to see less rushing attempts in Year 3.
Terry McLaurin returns as the team’s top wide receiver and he’s joined by Stefon Diggs this season. Antonio Williams was drafted in the third round and he has looked like a steal who looks ready to step into the WR3 role as a rookie. Bill Croskey-Merritt returns as the top RB in his second season, but the team added a receiving back in Rachaad White, and a promising late-round rookie in Kaytron Allen.
