Cooper Flagg is in the NBA now and basketball fans around the world want to see what he can do. In the words of Dick Vitale, “he’s a star, baby! A PTP-er!”
To his mother though, he’s a kid who should be starting his freshman year in college (he reclassified so he’s a year ahead of schedule) and she’s not quite ready to turn him loose in the world just yet.
On the world? Sure. In the world? She’s still mom.
So she’s telling him that his first car has to be modest (by NBA standards): no more than $180,000
on your first car son – and no Bugatti.
It’s kind of funny but it’s really good to see that she’s watching out for her boy. And she’s right: just because you’re 18 and can afford to spend an insane amount of money on fun things doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. She should hook him up with Grant Hill’s dad Calvin, who gave Grant some wonderful basic advice when he started his post-Duke life: it’s not how much you make, it’s how much you save.
