Your Oregon Ducks took on the Northwestern Wildcats in Evansville on Thursday night, looking to claim a winning record in conference in this young season. It was another defensive battle, right from the jump, as it seems to be more often than not this season. Northwestern would turn up the pressure around the 20 minute mark, forcing Ducks keeper Gray Willson to make two saves in quick succession, before they finally broke through to take a 1-0 lead, halfway through the first half.
Oregon would turn
up their aggressiveness, having a pair of good looks right before the half ended, but both were saved by the Wildcats keeper, preserving a Northwestern 1-0 lead at the break.
The Ducks defense would play fantastic the rest of the way, holding the Wildcats to just 4 shot attempts in the 2nd half, and giving Oregon plenty of opportunities to capitalize and tie things up. But, despite having a couple great looks late in the game, the Ducks just couldn’t find the net, and the Wildcats would end up holding on to win 1-0.
Tough loss for the ladies, on Thursday. The defense was spectacular, as it has been all season, but the offense has had its struggles with consistency. It’s still early, so hopefully the offense can start to figure some things out soon.
