The Buffalo Bills got a huge scare in the first half of their 41-31 Thursday Night Football victory over the Lions in Week 2, when DJ Moore stayed down after diving for a throw from Josh Allen in the end zone. A few hours before that, Ed Oliver was shockingly on the inactive list after tweaking his hip in warmups.
Now we have more clarity on the severity of their injuries.
Appearing on NFL Gameday before Sunday’s action in Week 1, Ian Rapoport gave the following updates on Moore and Oliver.
First on
Moore:
“Not considered to be a serious injury. It is an AC joint sprain for DJ Moore. It’s considered day-to-day. I expect him to practice next week. That is a good sign. We’ll see if he plays. But I expect him to practice.”
On Oliver:
“Is considered day-to-day, and has a chance, though, for next week.”
Oliver not being on the field was hugely impactful against Detroit, as Buffalo’s defense is clearly getting its legs early in the season. The Bills did deviate to a more run-heavy approach once Moore was sidelined on Thursday, but it’s not as if the aerial was completely stagnant for the rest of the contest.
However, we all understand how vital Moore is to the Bills pass-game plans this season.
The news that these veterans are day-to-day instead of week-to-week or month-to-month is majorly positive from the Bills as they begin preparing for the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3.
While I won’t be shocked if either don’t play in week — and wouldn’t necessarily be against the precautionary route this early in the season — we will get a good sense of how the Bills are approaching their respective injuries during practice this week.
