This week presents a twist, in that SBN Reacts sent you out a White Sox-specific question, but nothing of national import (pretty big football weekend coming up, anyway). We asked you to play White Sox manager for Opening Day and tell us where on the field you are penciling-in Munetaka Murakami.
The results were as close to unanimous as you’ll get around these parts:
There seems little doubt going in that the speed of MLB is not going to generous to Murakami holding down third base, not when he comes
into Chicago with merely passable defensive grades. Designated hitter will of course be a frequent option for Mune — but that option will have to apply for several other White Sox as well, perhaps most urgently whoever of Edgar Quero or Kyle Teel isn’t behind the plate on a given day.
That leaves first base to Murakami, with apologies to guys like Miguel Vargas and Lenyn Sosa who have pinballed all over the field as White Sox. If Mune can’t handle a glove at all, of course he’ll be shoved off of the field and into regular DH work — but until then, the fan base prefers him at first.
