Horrible news from the England camp. According to official sources, Harry Kane will miss the upcoming friendly versus Japan due to having picked up a minor issue in training. He has not yet returned to Bayern Munich for an assessment, instead remaining with the national team for the time being.
Here is the tweet confirming that the striker will miss the game:
Thomas Tuchel originally intended to rest Kane for the opening game versus Uruguay, to give him some time off to recover before starting him against Japan. Now, it seems the former FC Bayern manager will have to go without.
It is still unknown how badly Kane is injured, and whether it could jeopardize his participation against Real Madrid in the Champions League a week from now. Bayern Munich will want him returned to Munich as soon as possible to be looked at by their medical team.
This is the second time a major injury during international break threatens to derail a season under Vincent Kompany. Last year, Canada star Alphonso Davies picked up a serious ACL injury during the break which ended his season. Back then, it was reported as a “minor issue” which will certainly worry fans that history is repeating itself.
