What is the story about?
Today, the Portland Thorns announced a permanent transfer for forward Alexa Spaanstra to Utah Royals in exchange for $25,000 in intra-league transfer funds and up to $7,500 in conditional add-ons.
After a successful five-year collegiate career with Virginia Cavaliers, she was selected with the 10th overall draft pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft by Kansas City Current. Spaanstra was later traded to Portland in August 2024 and signed a contract extension shortly after.
In March, she joined Utah via short-term
loan. The forward has already earned 13 appearances (two starts) with the Royals.
The former first round pick has appeared in over 60 NWSL games in her career.
