The NFL calendar moves into Week 3 tonight, and the schedule brings us the Miami Dolphins at the Buffalo Bills. Over the past few seasons, this game has been a highlight on the schedule, with the Dolphins trying to find a way to overtake the Bills in the AFC East division title race. Miami has repeatedly fallen short, in no small part to the repeated beatdowns Buffalo has given them, especially in games played in Buffalo.
This year, this game means more to the Dolphins than just an early matchup as
they try to claim a spot in the postseason. This game could be the turning point on the season, or on the future of the franchise. Miami has struggled in their first two games, with penalties, communication issues, and a team that has looked lackluster and disinterested at times. Head coach Mike McDaniel is firmly on the hotseat and, with an 11-day break between tonight’s game and the team’s Week 4 Monday Night Football meeting with the New York Jets, if the Dolphins again look like they are not capable of even contending in a game, this could be the end of the McDaniel era in Miami.
Or, this game could be the upset win the team needs to prove they are still playoff contenders in the AFC this year.
