On Wednesday night, there was OTHER news out of the state of Michigan, and news that actually affects Notre Dame. Irish linebackers coach, Max Bullough, is leaving South Bend to become the new Co-Defensive
Coordinator and linebackers coach for the Michigan State Spartans.
Along with Bullough, Notre Dame assistant Tre Reader is also leaving Notre Dame to become the Assistant Linebackers Coach for the Spartans. Reader, a former Notre Dame linebacker as a walk-on, worked directly under Bullough in South Bend.
The Spartans are starting over under new head coach, Pat Fitzgerald, and our favorite cell phone hater is undoubtedly wanting to bring back some of that old Spartan toughness on the defensive side of the ball that they were well known for under Mark Dantonio.
We knew this day was coming when Bullough first arrived in South Bend. The Bullough family legacy at Michigan State is something like the Golic family at Notre Dame. The chance to go back to his alma mater and become a coordinator was something Max wanted badly — and I wish hom the best of luck (except for one Saturday of course).
Notre Dame has had one of the best linebacker rooms in the country for years now, and Bullough was a big part of their recent success. Notre Dame will most likely land another great coach to take over with the linebackers, but it’s hard to say who that might be right now.
