The Cleveland Browns Week 1 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars was extremely disappointing for the players and fans alike. There weren’t many positive moments to build on, making it difficult to find much hope for the season. After the Browns’ Week 2 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, some of that hope and optimism have been restored. In this 23-19 win, what are the most important things the team should try to build on to keep the momentum going into Week 3?
Denzel Boston got heavily involved in the
offense against the Buccaneers, finishing with five receptions for 95 yards and one touchdown. There was a lot of excitement about the rookie receiver going into this season. His Week 1 performance, two receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown, flew somewhat under the radar following the tough loss to the Jaguars. With the win over Tampa Bay, there is a lot more to get excited about with Boston.
Deshaun Watson was efficient, with only 6 incompletions, and rushing for 22 yards.
On the other side of the ball, the defense appeared to find its footing in Week 2 after a frustrating performance the previous week. They made life difficult for Baker Mayfield, recording three sacks, an interception, and three passes defended. While it wasn’t perfect, the unit looked far more cohesive and played with greater purpose compared to the Week 1 performance. They will have an opportunity to build on this performance in Week 3 against the Carolina Panthers, who are coming off of a dominant 34-3 win against the Atlanta Falcons.
