LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers originally planned to start Dalton Rushing at designated hitter and Max Muncy at third base on Saturday against the Washington Nationals, but both were scratched from the lineup. Rushing has elbow soreness and Muncy is sick, the team said.
Rushing spent four weeks on the injured list after a partial tear of the UCL in his right elbow before getting activated on Tuesday. He played in each of the last four games, batting only, going hitless in four at-bats plus a hit by pitch.
Several hours before first pitch on Saturday, Rushing was going through drills to test his elbow, including throwing from varying distances in the outfield, including what looked like to be around 120 feet. Rushing also did drills throwing to second base from behind home plate.
In their place, Teoscar Hernández moved from left field to designated hitter with Alex Call now starting in left field, and Kiké Hernández was inserted into the lineup at third base.
