Dana White had an interesting take regarding the latest attempted assassination attempt on U.S. president Donald Trump: “It was awesome.”
White was sitting at the Paramount Skydance table at the annual White House Correspondent’s Dinner when news came in that a shooter had opened fire in another part of the Washington Hilton. One FBI agent was shot in his bullet-proof vest before the the would-be assassin was subdued and taken into custody. While the threat never got close to the hall where the dinner
was held, Secret Service rushed Trump off stage and things got pretty chaotic.
“Guys running in with guns and they were screaming ‘Get down,'” White relayed to reporters later in the night. “I didn’t get down. It was f—king awesome. I literally took every minute of it in, and it was a pretty crazy, unique experience.”
Now we have footage of White’s reaction to the incident as it unfolded in real time.
That footage shows White at his table saying “I saw nothing, I just heard a lot of bangs. Where are we going?” A Secret Service agent ushered him from the table closer to the main stage. White was left sitting on the corner of the stage with a confused smile on his face as someone screamed “U.S.A” repeatedly. You can see men in military gear and rifles in the background as the room is being secured.
The video then jumps to later on after the incident as people are returning to their seats. In the background, White can be seen talking and laughing with a few other unidentified men in suits.
This is the third time someone has tried to assassinate Donald Trump in the past two years, depending on what you count as a proper attempt. The Wikipedia page detailing ‘security incidents involving Donald Trump’ marks this as the 10th incident since Butler, Pennsylvania where a shooter on a rooftop managed to fire off eight shots at Trump during a campaign stop for the 2024 election, killing one bystander.
All this really underscores the security challenges the UFC production team and Secret Service will face as we approach the UFC White House event just seven weeks from now.
As Joe Rogan noted weeks ago, “It’s going to be very high security, and high stress.” And that was before this assassination attempt.
