Ronald Araujo was in the spotlight on Friday night as he faced England in an international friendly with Uruguay at Wembley Stadium.
The Barcelona defender wiped out Phil Foden early in the second half with a very strong challenge that left the England star needing treatment.
England boss Thomas Tuchel was absolutely livid on the touchline as Araujo escaped punishment for the challenge.
Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson described the scene: “Tuchel is absolutely raging. He thinks that was a really poor challenge on Foden. Araujo arrived very, very late and he caught Foden. He’s gone through him.”
Foden was able to continue but was then taken off shortly after the incident.
Former Arsenal star Lee Dixon on commentary said: “Thomas Tuchel is not happy with that tackle at all. He’s won the ball but he’s followed straight through. Ouch. That’s a leg-breaker. He’s lucky to get away with that. In the Premier League he’s going off there. It’s a terrible tackle. The aggression in that, endangering an opponent. I tell you what. He’s lucky.”
Uruguay and Araujo are due to play again on Tuesday against Algeria in another friendly.
