Rutgers safety Jett Elad and running back Antwan Raymond were named finalists for the 2025 Jon Cornish trophy. The trophy is meant to honor the most outstanding Canadian player in college football. The two are part of a group of five players who were named finalists for the trophy.
Raymond, a native of Montreal, Quebec, finished the season with 244 carries for 1,241 yards, 13 rushing touchdowns, and two receiving touchdowns. He was named one of the 10 semifinalists for the Doak-Walker award, an annual
award given to the best running back in the country that year. His rushing yards total for one season ranks eighth highest in school history and was the third highest in the Big Ten this season. Raymond’s best game of the season came against Maryland, as he ran the ball 41 times for 240 yards and one touchdown against the Terrapins. To add on to that, Raymond scored at least one touchdown in 10 different games last season. He was named to the all-Big Ten second team by both the coaches and the media.
A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Elad started all 12 games this season and led the Scarlet Knights in tackles with 8o tackles. The safety also showed his promise in pass defense and on special teams, as he recorded two interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a blocked punt. He had nine games with at least five tackles; however, he saved his best performance for last as he recorded 11 tackles in Rutgers’ senior night game against Penn State. This is the third season in a row that Elad has been named a finalist for the trophy. He was also an all-Big Ten honorable mention by the coaches.
The winner of the trophy will be announced on Dec. 17.
