AEW’s National title is here, whether you think it’s existence is necessary, a problem, or just plain silly. And after the Casino Gauntlet match at Full Gear tonight (Nov. 22) in Newark, New Jersey, it has
its first holder.
The Casino Gauntlet is a staggered entry affair a la the Royal Rumble, but it must be won by pinfall or submission, and it can end at any time — regardless of how many of its up to 21 entrants have entered. The intervals between their entries is random, we’re told.
Full Gear’s was the seventh Casino Gauntlet AEWs put on, and it started with pain on the docket when the Hurt Syndicate’s Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin started, followed quickly by their longtime nemesis Ricochet. But it was a trick by The Demand’s leader, and GoA took out The Syndicate for a while.
Death Riders showed up to rain on Ric’s parade, as Claudi Castagnoli, Daniel Garcia, and Wheeler Yuta were three of the next four entrants, with frequent Rider foe Orange Cassidy between the group’s youngest members. The ring filled up with competitors from there, including a showdown between Garcia and the “Dad” he turned on…
Yuta, Castagnoli, Ricochet and Kevin Knight factored in the finish, with Knight looking to have it won with a UFO Splash on Wheeler. But Ric was ready…
… and he’s now won his first belt in AEW
