Former Seattle Seahawks running back and 2025 Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III opted for the big money from the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason, but any thought of him facing off against his old team this week appears to be shelved.
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid announced Walker III
is dealing with a swollen ankle and will not play in the team’s preseason finale at home against Seattle on August 28.Although Walker III has been a non-participant in the Chiefs last two practices, Reid added the swelling was merely due to his cleat and he is not expected to be sidelined long-term.
Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and 2025 first-round pick Josh Simmons are among other starters being held out, so it’s not likely that Walker would have played anyway, although Reid has not completely ruled out some starters like Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice getting game time.
“I’m going to evaluate it in the next couple of days,” Reid said (via Arrowhead Pride). “They’ve worked their tails off this week and have taken a lot of reps, so that’s been good for them. We’ll just see as we get closer to the game here.”
Even though Walker III may not be taking the field against his former team in the preseason, fans won’t have to wait long for his return. The Seahawks are set to host Kansas City on Sunday Night Football in Week 7, meaning should he stay healthy, not only will he make his return in the regular season, but also on the road at Lumen Field.
