The Green Bay Packers announced on Wednesday that they have signed defensive lineman Eric Johnson II and receiver Quincy Skinner Jr. to their practice squad. Both players worked out with the team earlier this week, and the Johnson signing was reported on by Sports Illustrated’s Bill Huber on Tuesday.
Skinner replaces Chris Hilton Jr., who was released from the Packers’ practice squad this week, while Johnson slides into the spot that was previously held by Jaden Crumedy, who was poached off Green
Bay’s practice squad to the Houston Texans’ 53-man roster last week. The Packers’ defensive line room has been raided, as Nazir Stackhouse was signed off waivers at the cutdown deadline, too, leaving the team with no option on the practice squad other than Crumedy. On top of that, three of Green Bay’s defensive linemen are currently on the injury report, leaving them short on bodies for practice.

Green Bay currently still has one open spot on the practice squad. The Packers might be eyeing offensive lineman Cordell Volson for that spot, as they worked him, and only him, out on Wednesday per the NFL transaction wire.
Volson was picked in the fourth round out of North Dakota State back in 2022. Over his rookie contract, he played 50 games (48 starts) with the Cincinnati Bengals at guard. He didn’t play at all during the 2025 regular season, though, because he had a season-ending surgery on his right shoulder.
After the completion of his rookie contract, he signed a one-year, $3.2 million contract with the Tennessee Titans this offseason, which included $2 million in guaranteed money. He did not make it through final cuts with the Titans, so he’s now a free agent.
For what it’s worth, Volson worked out with the Dallas Cowboys last week, who ultimately ended up signing former Pro Bowler Laken Tomlinson to their practice squad. Going into camp, it was projected that Volson was going to be the Titans’ starting right guard, but rookie fifth-round pick Fernando Carmona Jr. ended up winning the job.
For what it’s worth, Volson had a 29.1 grade in true pass protection sets in the 2024 season per Pro Football Focus, the last year in which he was active for a regular-season game.
