The Nevada Wolf Pack will have a new head coach after the 2026-27 season.

Longtime head man Steve Alford will be retiring after 36 years — including eight with the Wolf Pack — he announced Thursday.

“After 36 years, I feel like this is the right time to step away from the bench,” Alford announced via release. “Tanya and I have loved our time in Reno, and have embraced this amazing community and built lifelong friendships.

“I want to thank the University of Nevada for the opportunity to lead this program,

and I am looking forward to finishing this season the right way, with a team I believe in. God has richly blessed our family in so many ways through basketball and we are very grateful. I’m excited to see God’s direction in the next chapter.”
