Munich has taken another step toward potentially hosting the Champions League final at Allianz Arena in 2028.
The Munich city council has approved the city’s bid to host UEFA’s showpiece event, with the UEFA Executive Committee expected to make its final decision on the host city in mid-September 2026.
Munich Mayor Dominik Krause welcomed the bid and highlighted the city’s recent experience hosting major international sporting events.
“Munich has once again demonstrated in 2025 that we can host major
sporting events of the highest international caliber. A repeat hosting would be a great opportunity to showcase Munich internationally as a cosmopolitan, sports-loving, and high-performing host city,” Krause said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Allianz Arena has already established itself as one of European football’s premier venues, and another Champions League final would provide Bayern Munich’s home stadium with another opportunity to take center stage on the continent.
For Munich, the bid is also about more than football. Hosting the Champions League final would provide another major international spotlight for the city and reinforce its reputation as a destination capable of handling some of the biggest sporting events in the world.
Now, Munich must wait for UEFA’s decision in September.
