Barcelona midfielder Gavi is set to jet out to Saudi Arabia to cheer on his team-mates in Sunday’s Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid.
Club president Joan Laporta has confirmed that Gavi will join Marc-Andre ter Stegen in making the trip out to the Middle East for the Superclasico.
“The captain wants to be with his teammates and Gavi is also coming,” he said.
Gavi is still working his way back from another knee operation but is closing in on a return to action. It’s expected he could be available
again by February or March and play a role in the final months of the campaign.
“I’m doing very well, I’m following the agreed deadlines and I hope to continue like this,” he told Sport in December. “I miss the ball a lot, being with the ball and playing with your teammates.”
As for Ter Stegen, he left the Super Cup squad in the week after suffering a knee injury in training. The goalkeeper returned to Barcelona for checks but has since confirmed he’s fine and will rejoin the squad.
