Yoel Romero squared off versus Alex Nicholson (not Hector Lombard) earlier this morning (Fri., May 1, 2026) for Jorge Masvidal’s Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA promotion from inside Unrivaled Arena in Miami, Florida.
In the later stages of Romero’s career, the Cuban has been known for both explosive knockouts and the occasional staring contest. Fortunately, there was no waiting around here! Nicholson went after Romero, who countered his aggression with multiple takedowns. On the second takedown, Romero was able
to unleash a few ground strikes.
At first glance, they didn’t look like massive connections. However, the shots quickly forced Nicholson — a former UFC fighter and longtime combat sports veteran — to tap to strikes. Moments later, it became apparent that Romero’s ground strikes broke Nicholson’s jaw, forcing the end of the contest in just over a minute.
Check out the video highlights below:
Nicholson is not a world-class fighter, but he’s experienced and has thrown down with plenty of tough fighters even at Heavyweight. For Romero to run through him in roughly a minute at this age? “The Soldier Of God” is a truly remarkable, one of a kind athlete. Whether it’s BKFC, RAF, or Gamebred MMA, Romero remains a must-watch attraction.
