Bayern Munich extended their undefeated streak in Bundesliga opening matches with a 5-1 win over VfB Stuttgart. In addition to an own goal from Stuttgart, four different Bayern players scored on two assists, each from Joshua Kimmich and Ismael Saibari. Stuttgart tied it up in the 52nd minute before Bayern kicked it into another gear and blew the game wide open. Bayern captain Manuel Neuer made three big saves to stifle Stuttgart’s attack.
In the postgame interview (via @iMiaSanMia), Neuer was asked
whether this season is treble or bust.
“You can’t say that right now,” said Neuer . “We’re working hard, this is the third season with Vinnie. We’ll try to work on that things that didn’t go well last season, to go that last step in the big knockout games, like against PSG. But now we have to do our homework and go step by step.”
In Bayern’s treble winning campaigns in 2012/13 and 2019/20, Manuel Neuer was a key member of the squad and knows what it takes to get the job done. That does not prevent high expectations for the reigning Bundesliga champs to repeat the domestic double and overthrow PSG for the European crown.
