The Washington Mystics lost to the New York Liberty on Sunday in overtime, 98-93.
The first half of this game started with Washington taking an early lead, but the Liberty came right back and then some with a 55-48 lead. Marine Johannes led New York by scoring 17 of her 25 points in the half. Washington was able to claw their way back into the game and hold New York to sub 40 percent shooting in the second half. This helped them get the game into overtime.
While neither team was able to get much momentum
going in overtime with shooting efficiency, the Liberty ultimately had the upper hand with Pauline Astier scoring 6 points (four on free throws) in the extra five minutes.
For Washington, Kiki Iriafen scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Shakira Austin added 16 points and 10 rebounds. Sonia Citron also scored 17 points. A solid showing by the Mystics’ three top players.
In addition to Johannes, Breanna Stewart added 23 points for the Liberty.
