Manchester United have reportedly discussed Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall as they consider future options at left back.
According to the Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler, United are in the market for depth and competition on the left side of their defense after Tyrell Malacia left the club.
Luke Shaw started every Premier League game last season, but United are not expecting him to stay injury-free for another full campaign. Patrick Dorgu has also impressed in a role a bit higher up the pitch, while
Diego Leon is not yet viewed as ready for regular match-day apps.
“Newcastle’s highly-rated Lewis Hall has been mentioned as a potential target,” Wheeler reported.
However, Wheeler played down the chances of a move happening this summer because of the cost involved, and given Man Utd’s business elsewhere.
“It’s unlikely United would have the money left over to do a deal of that magnitude this summer,” Wheeler wrote.
United have already agreed a £39million deal with Atalanta for Ederson and are also working on other midfield targets, including West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes and Nott Forest’s Elliot Anderson.
All of that spending could push a major defensive overhaul into 2027, when Shaw, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez are due to be out of contract, although United hold options on Maguire and Martinez.
Hall, meanwhile, has already been linked with interest from Manchester United earlier this summer and is a likely option to be sold if the right offer arrives at Newcastle’s table, but for now, insiders have denied reports of a breakdown in his relationship with Eddie Howe, and no formal bid has been reported to date.
