The San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers completed their season series at Petco Park over the weekend.
Despite the Padres winning two of the three games, the Dodgers won the season series before their final three-game set even started. San Diego dropped the season series 4-9,
and the teams went into their respective series against the Seattle Mariners and the Cincinatti Reds in a tie for first place in the West.
The Padres are 1-1 in their first two games against the Mariners and the Dodgers are 2-0 in their two games against the Reds.
San Diego and Los Angeles are separated by a game in the National League West standings and the Dodgers own the tiebreaker if they finish the season with the same record. With 29 games to play, the top spot in the division is still up for grabs.
The Padres and Dodgers are both positioned to make the postseason no matter which team wins the division. They are joined by the Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets. Only one team will earn the opportunity to compete for a championship, and like the NL West, that opportunity is yet to be determined.
