When Bayern Munich trailed 2-0 in the 80th minute of their away fixture against SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga, fans were bemoaning the disjointed performance and iffy defending. A thrilling comeback led to the Bavarians pulling victory from the jaws of defeat in the form of a 99th minute winner to end the game 3-2. Naturally, the thrilling nature of this comeback silenced many critics but some still had issue with the performance as a whole.
Not Vincent Kompany, however. Bayern’s head coach explained
after the match, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, why he was satisfied with the overall performance.
“I thought we got off to a good start. In the first part of the first half, we found good spaces but the last touch wasn’t there. But we also have to give credit to the opponent, they gave everything in front of their fans. That’s why it was tough for us. That’s part of football. You can’t win every game 3-0 or 4-0 with Champagne football. You have to live this kind of emotion during a season. I’m actually happy with the 3 points because I knew it’d be tough.”
SC Freiburg do tend to make every game against them a real slog and a difficult fight to prevail in. The fact that Bayern emerged with 3 points can only be good.
