Back in June, Global Fight League (GFL) announced its launch event for Sat., Oct. 17, 2026 at Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas, Nevada. Several weeks later, GFL scrubbed that announcement from its social media pages and went back into hiding.
Four days after the launch event that never happened, GFL was back on X to celebrate its approval from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) to host a mixed martial arts (MMA) event in 2027.
No date or venue has been revealed.
One fan in the comment section said it best: “Go away.”
GFL executive Darren Owen said GFL was “funded” and “100-percent ready to launch” back in late 2024. The team-based MMA program never got off the ground, lost the funding it claimed to have, then got threatened with lawsuits from its own fighters.
More fight promotions means more opportunities for fighters to earn a living and that’s always a positive step forward, it’s just hard to take GFL seriously at this point after so many false starts and empty promises.
In addition, GFL is facing stiff competition in 2027 — not just from UFC, but also Ki MMA and the PFL-MVP collaboration that is expected to launch in the next few months.
