Day one in Lawrence is in the books, and Missouri track & field wasted no time making noise at the Rock Chalk Classic on Friday, May 1. From distance dominance to throwing power, the Tigers showed up across the board.
Men’s 1,500m Set the Pace
Lasse Funck led the charge with an impressive win, and a No.2 Mizzou program record in the event. He clocked a blazing 3:41.25 to take the top spot. Finnian Russell wasn’t far behind, placing seventh in 3:42.95. Carter Spradling (11th) and Andrew Hauser (15th) rounded out a strong competitive
showing for Mizzou in the event.
Women’s Hammer Throw Claim Four in the Top 10
The Tigers came out swinging in the hammer throw. Kaitlyn Morningstar set the tone early, finishing second with a mark of 52.48 meters. Reagan Kimrey added a sixth-place finish of 49.40 meters, while Delilah Pippen and Tania Duncan secured eighth and ninth. With four Tigers in the top 10, this set the tone right for the team.
Freiner’s Notable 5,000 Meter Race
Tyler Freiner claimed a second place finish in the race for the Tigers, with a time of 14:06.70. His result was Mizzou’s new No.10 program record in the event.
Men’s Hammer Throw Put Power on Display
Sam Innes led the men with a dominant throw of 67.84 meters. Garik Pozecki delivered a huge personal best of 63.61 meters, enough for fourth place and No. 9 all-time in Mizzou program history. Clayton Kamp added to the squad with an eighth-place finish of 55.84 meters, capping off another strong event for the Tigers.
Women’s Javelin Shines Through
The Tigers stacked the leaderboard in the javelin, finishing second as a team behind a wave of top performers. Morgan Cannon led the way with a throw of 47.59 meters, followed closely by Val Galligan in third at 46.93 meters, Marysa Flieg in fourth at 45.47 meters and Adrienne Russell in fifth with her throw of 44.52 meters. Nora Hark added a seventh-place finish, giving Mizzou five athletes in the top-10.
PB for Barnard
Elissa Barnard capped off her day with a personal-best performance in the women’s 1,500m, finishing 12th in 4:39.68.
Women’s 5,000 Meter Race
Charlotte Cullen ran unattached, winning the overall race with a time of 16:45.29. As for Natalie Barnard, she claimed third overall for the Tigers, with a time of 17:15.57.

What’s Next
The Tigers return to Kansas with more action to spare on Saturday, May 2, for the second day of the Rock Chalk meet.
Allison Geen, MaKenna Estes and Anna Vedral will represent Missouri in the women’s pole vault, while Sam Albert, Chase Crawford and Kamp are set to compete in the men’s shot put.
Burton will take part in the women’s discus throw, and River Hardman will race in the men’s 800 meters. Robert Hines will close out the day for the Tigers in the 100-meter dash, scheduled for approximately 3:20 p.m.
