Calling a quarterback in the NFL can come across as incredibly insulting, but if you consider how hard it is to play QB in the NFL, being called a “career backup” is a bit of a compliment. Is Ty Simpson a career backup? We don’t know yet, but I can tell you I have been called worse than a “career backup”.
You could make the argument that if Simpson is a backup for the Rams over the next however many seasons and does well, then what’s the problem? What Ty Simpson will be for the Rams is going to be fascinating
to watch. Matthew Stafford has a say. Sean McVay has a say. Ty Simpson has a say. It’s wild, and yet, it’s all very chill. It’s Los Angeles, baby.
Please comment on whatever you want. Happy Fourth of July! Happy 250 years of American history! The good and the bad is all real. A country existing for 250 years is real too. Who thought we’d make it? Another NFL season approaches right here in the U.S.A.
The United States soccer team is doing things too.
Have a great holiday. If you can, enjoy it.

Ex-NFL GM calls Rams rookie Ty Simpson ‘a career backup’ (ramswire)
“Former Washington general manager Scot McCloughan isn’t sold on Ty Simpson’s outlook in the NFL. On The Team 980, McCloughan called the rookie quarterback’s draft slot a reach and compared him to two other first-round quarterback busts.
“I think the quarterback from Alabama is overdrafted,” McCloughan said. “But it’s the position alone, you know. I think, not being a guru, but he’s like [Minnesota Vikings quarterback] JJ McCarthy. He’s like [former New England Patriots quarterback] Mac Jones. He’s a career backup.”
Raiders Urged to Sign Super Bowl Champion, Former Rams Second-Round Pick (heavy.com)
“After six mostly healthy, productive pro years, Rapp suffered a season-ending knee injury in October of last year. For the first time in his career, he finished a campaign without an interception or a pass breakup but only allowed a stingy 78.6 passer rating in coverage,” Moton wrote. “Coming off a down year, Rapp is unlikely to sign a multiyear contract, but the battle-tested defensive back may just need a one-year, prove-it deal to show why he’s still a starting-caliber defender.”
Rams Could Have Trade Solution for Lions at Cornerback Following Terrion Arnold Release (sports.yahoo)
“Another element of this is that sending a cornerback to the Lions would also be assisting a conference rival and top competitor in the NFC. In a Super Bowl season, that may not be something that the Rams want to do.
While the Rams may not trade Forbes because of the depth and experience he provides, it’s something they should consider if the Lions were to call. Forbes likely isn’t part of the long-term plan at cornerback. If the Rams feel comfortable in some of their younger depth at cornerback, moving on from Forbes could make sense.“
