Roman Reigns made a bold statement hours before Clash In Italy, where he will defend the World Heavyweight Championship in Tribal Combat.
Sunday on X, the OTC wrote:
You Might Not Like It
But After Tonight
You Will Understand
I Am Everything They Say I Am
#TribalCombat #WWEClash
Reigns’ post, followed by WWE’s promotion of the match on social media, suggests that Tribal
Combat will go on as scheduled. Last Thursday, Fatu seemingly suffered a back injury that initially put his status for Clash in jeopardy.
As for the rest of his message, it’s easy to dismiss it as typical in-character bravado. But consider this: Reigns has been on a tear in his last two matches.
At WrestleMania 42, he and CM Punk delivered a masterpiece that earned a five-star rating from Dave Meltzer, who rarely gives WWE matches such a ringing endorsement.
Leading into and through Backlash earlier this month, Reigns’ selling for Fatu and his Tongan Death Grip furthered the “Samoan Werewolf’s” persona as a killer. Though he lost, Fatu came out of Backlash looking stronger in a match that was widely praised by fans.
Reigns’ post may also suggest he’s psyching himself up for a challenge. If Fatu is playing hurt, Reigns will have to do some heavy lifting to mask any limitations, control the pace, and guide Fatu to another standout performance.
Should he pull it off, Reigns’ place among wrestling’s greatest in-ring generals may deserve more serious consideration alongside names like Bret Hart and Ric Flair. It’s a compelling subplot that goes beyond storylines and into legacy-defining moments that fans need to keep a keen eye on.
