One would rather not dwell on Vincent Kompany’s health issues and Joshua Kimmich’s familial tragedy, aside from sending prayers to the duo and their families and hoping things improve as soon as possible. But these events did happen, affecting Bayern Munich in the midst of a grueling eight-day span that saw the Bavarians face Rasenballsport Leipzig, Arsenal FC, and SC Freiburg.
Furthermore, injuries began piling up left, right, and center. Against Leipzig, only Jamal Musiala and Manuel Neuer were
unavailable. By the time the match against Freiburg kicked off, five more players—along with Kompany—had joined the unavailable list.
These circumstances made the week exceptionally difficult for Bayern, yet they still managed to clinch a 3-1 away win against SC Freiburg. Speaking after the match (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Jonas Urbig was proud of the team.
“I’m really proud of the club for how we’ve handled this situation together. It was a tough week for us, especially mentally. But also many players were dropping one by one this week. A huge compliment to everyone who helped ensure that we stay united and win this difficult away game.”
However, as impressive as the win was, the football schedule moves on relentlessly. Next up is 1. FC Magdeburg in the DFB-Pokal, and it will require the same unity and commitment shown in recent days to secure a victory in this hugely important knockout match.
