Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal has been named in the Spain Under-21 squad for their European Championship qualifying matches against Cyprus and Kosovo.
There had been talk that Bernal could make the senior roster but he will go with David Gordo’s squad, with the coach full of praise for the Barcelona midfielder.
“Marc has been through very tough circumstances with the injury,” he said after announcing his squad.
“He has a quality that’s beyond doubt. He’s become an example to keep working and maintain
a very high level. We predict a great future for him.”

Goalkeepers: Fran Martínez (Real Madrid), Esquivel (Atlético) and Vicente Abril (Valencia).
Defenders: Fresneda (Sporting), Jiménez (Bournemouth), Jon Martín (Real Sociedad), Yarek (PSV), Jacobo Ramón (Como), Herzog (Las Palmas), Valle (Como) and Obrador (Benfica).
Midfielders: Chema Andrés (Stuttgart), Bernal (Barcelona), Requena (Córdoba), Peio Canales (Racing), Mario Martín (Getafe) and Fer López (Celta).
Forwards: Pablo García (Betis), Jesús Rodríguez (Como), Mayenda (Sunderland), Adrián Niño (Málaga), Virgili (Mallorca) and Gonzalo (Real Madrid).
Spain’s Under 21s face Cyprus on Friday the 27th in Larnaca and Kosovo on Tuesday the 31st in Madrid.
