Atletico Madrid chief Enrique Cerezo has sent out a strong message regarding Julian Alvarez’s future amid talk of interest from Barcelona.
Alvarez is said to be one of Barcelona’s favorite options to replace
ageing striker Robert Lewandowski who could leave at the end of his contract next summer.
Yet Cerezo has made it clear he has no intention of letting Alvarez leave his club despite the speculation about his future.
“Julián Álvarez is an Atleti player and will remain an Atleti player, have no doubt about it,” he told El Chiringuito.
Yet Alvarez sounded a lot less certain when talking about his future over the international break.
He told L’Equipe: “Do I plan on playing at Barcelona or at PSG? Honestly, I don’t know. I see what people say on social media… in Spain, people speak a lot about me and Barcelona […] for now, I am focused on Atlético and we will review at the end of the season.”
It remains to be seen what will happen with Alvarez, although if he does leave Atletico it would surely be for a huge transfer fee.
