The Green Bay Packers have added receiver Bo Melton back to the team’s 53-man active roster after moving him down to the practice squad late last week. Melton was released due to his status as a vested veteran for the purposes of termination pay, but he was called up for Sunday’s action against the Minnesota Vikings.
Essentially, had Melton been a member of the 53-man roster in Week 1, he would have been able to claim pay for his entire minimum salary for the 2026 season, even if he were released
at a future date. Because the Packers didn’t have him on the 53-man roster, his salary is not guaranteed, and he doesn’t have the option to claim termination pay moving forward. Green Bay’s 53-man roster is now full.
The Packers also released long snapper Scott Daly from the practice squad, leaving just Matt Orzech at the position (on the 53-man roster). Green Bay was the only team with a long snapper on their practice squad in Week 1.
With the promotion of Melton and the release of Daly, Green Bay has two open practice squad spots up for grabs going into Week 2. Generally, the team makes additions to the practice squad after workouts on Tuesday, the Packers’ “off” day during the regular season.
Right now, here’s how Green Bay’s practice squad shapes up:
- QB: Kedon Slovis
- RB: Pierre Strong Jr. (hamstring injury), Damon Bankston (signed last week)
- WR: Isaiah Neyor, Chris Hilton Jr.
- TE: Drake Dabney
- OL: Josh Gesky, Dalton Cooper, Dillon Wade
- DL: None
- ED: Nyjalik Kelly, Arron Mosby
- LB: Kristian Welch (called up last week due to Ty’Ron Hopper’s injury)
- CB: Domani Jackson
- S: Kahlef Hailassie (signed last week)
- K: Lenny Krieg (international exemption)
Last week, the Packers worked out a quarterback, a tight end and two running backs and defensive backs, before ultimately signing a running back and defensive back.
