BYU continued the good portal news Tuesday morning with the announcement that Kansas State linebacker Jake Clifton has signed with BYU.
Clifton played two season at Kansas State in 2022 and 2023 before going on a LDS mission and missing the last two seasons. Clifton returned home a few months ago and decided to transfer to BYU.
Clifton was a contributor both of his seasons at Kansas State and adds to a deep linebacker room. He played
in 11 games as a freshman in 2022 before stepping into a bigger role as a sophomore in 2023. That season, he played in 8 games and started 3 before an injury cut his season short. He totaled 24 tackles and 2 TFLs, including a career high 8 tackles versus Texas. His Kansas State bio says he started games at middle linebacker.
Linebacker may be the deepest unit on BYU’s roster. BYU returns starters Isaiah Glasker and Siale Esera, adds transfers Cade Uluave and Jake Clifton, and has other experienced and young players that should contribute. Clifton will be a junior this coming season.
