In alumni news, former XC/Track standout Illiass Aouani took the bronze medal in the marathon at the World Championships. Congratulations to Illiass on a huge breakthrough on the international stage.

Sports round-up:
Field Hockey (6-0, 0-0)
The Orange got two more road wins this weekend. First, they took down #11 Princeton 1-0 in overtime on a Bo van Kempen overtime penalty stroke.
Yesterday, Syracuse rallied to beat Lafayette 5-2 as van Kempen had a hat trick and Ally Snyder added two goals. The Orange return home next weekend to host Wake Forest on Friday and Virginia on Sunday.
Women’s Soccer (4-2-4, 0-1-1)
Syracuse started ACC play with a 1-1 tie against SMU after a goal by Vita Naihin. On Sunday, Syracuse dropped a 4-0 decision to #7 Florida State.
The Orange will host Virginia next Saturday.
Men’s Soccer (2-3-2, 0-1-0)
Syracuse had a late against #8 Stanford, but couldn’t close it out, falling by a 3-2 score in front of the 5th largest crowd in SU Soccer Stadium history. Kristjan Fortier and Chimere Okeze were the Orange goal-scorers.
Syracuse will hit the road for a game at #14 Duke on Friday night.
Volleyball (6-2, 0-0)
The undefeated run ended with two losses to Colgate by 3-1 scores. Syracuse will host the Syracuse Invitational next weekend with matches against Siena on Friday and St. John’s on Saturday,
Cross-Country
The Orange men swept the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational behind Assaf Harari’s win. Syracuse runners took 11 of the top 12 places as the team showcased it’s depth with 23 seconds separating 1st from 12th. It’s a good sign for Syracuse, which will face some tough competition in the ACC.
Syracuse’s women were 2nd behind host Penn State. Selma Anderson and Emma Eastman finished 7th and 8th respectively to lead the Orange. The teams will be back in action in two weeks when they get a preview of the NCAA Championship course at Missouri.
