It’s been quite a busy 48 hours, and a generally chaotic week, for the Rockies! In addition to hiring a PBO, they also made some roster moves that got lost in the shuffle. First, they made a trio of subtractions
in the form of Orlando Arcia, Kyle Farmer and Thairo Estrada. Then, they made a pair of additions.
On Wednesday, they added OF/1B Troy Johnston — the 2023 Minor League RBI leader — through a waiver claim from the Miami Marlins. The 28-year-old made his MLB debut in 2025 and slashed .277/331/.420 with four hoe runs and 13 RBI in 44 games. Over the course of six minor league seasons, Johnston has slashed .281/.367/.458 with 81 home runs, 148 doubles, and 16 triples. He has also gone 83-for-97 in stolen base attempts. It’s hard to say where Johnston will start, but the Rockies now have four first basemen on their MLB roster.
On Thursday, they claimed righ-handed reliever Garrett Acton off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays. The 27-year-old made his MLB debut in 2023, playing in six games with the Athletics. In 2025, he pitched one scoreless inning for the Rays. Last year in Triple-A, Acton went 5-1 with a 3.68 ERA in 45 games (4 starts). Across four minor league seasons, Acton is 16-12 with a 4.39 ERA in 151 games (6 starts).
The Rockies’ roster is now at 39.
