Every TNA champion will defend their title at Slammiversary. The question is who will be champion when the PPV rolls around. TNA booked two title bouts for Impact next week, and a third title bout is official for the PPV.
Eric Young will challenge Mike Santana for the TNA World Championship on Impact. Young earned his shot by winning a battle royal. The two exchanged trash-talk on Impact, and Young stood tall holding the title. That was after a kick to the cojones and a piledriver.
This match will be filmed during Impact tapings this weekend in Denver, Colorado. Santana seems like a lock to retain, however, TNA likes to throw screwballs from time to time. Santana’s first reign came to an unceremonious end when he was jumped by NXT goons, and Frankie Kazarian slithered in to call his shot. More recently, Lei Ying Lee won the Knockouts Championship from Arianna Grace on a taped episode of Impact. That goes to show that TNA won’t shy away from crowning new champions on taped shows. Heck, if spoilers get out, that could be used as a promotional tool to encourage viewership on Thursday night. Don’t forget that Nic Nemeth is still looming with the Call Your Shot trophy, so he might be a factor as well.
The second title bout for Impact is Mustafa Ali defending the TNA International Championship against KC Navarro, which was earned by pinning Ali in Champions Challenge. Ali aims to prove that the loss was a fluke.
Another winner from Champions Challenge was Xia Brookside. Her story has more juice to it than the other title shots. The Knockouts Championship is business, but this match is also personal after Brookside turned heel to betray Lei Ying Lee. Brookside doubled down on her treachery by interfering to cost Lee the loss to Mr. Elegance.
Brookside will challenge Lee for the Knockouts Championship at Slammiversary.
