Juventus CEO and General Manager Giovanni Carnevali may have said earlier this week that Paris Saint-Germain’s demands for Randal Kolo Muani were too high and their willingness to come down from them wasn’t looking all that encouraging, but it doesn’t mean he’s going to suddenly stop negotiations.
At least not yet.
According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio on Wednesday night, there’s another Juventus bid for Kolo Muani in the books. The reported price that Juve will offer up is €35 million, with
bonuses and even a potential sell-on clause still to be worked out between the Bianconeri and the two-time defending European champions. Just what that means for the likelihood of the deal is anybody’s guess at this point — especially when you consider it was Carnevali himself who said that Paris Saint-Germain’s asking price was, no jokes, “€45 million.”
Could this be one of Carnevali’s last attempts to try and get Kolo Muani signed this summer? At this point, with potential bonuses and a sell-on clause of a future sale, you have to believe the deal will be pushing €40 million, if not well over that. Then that means it’c close to the €45 million figure that Carnevali quoted himself as PSG’s desired price tag.
So, if that’s not accept, then what more can a guy do other than throw his hands up in the air, admit that the other club you’re negotiating with won’t accept pretty much anything other than their price and walk away to pursue other targets?
Juventus need a striker — we know that quite well at this point. They need somebody who can deliver them goals and just raise the floor of this team compared to where it was for much of last season. But, Carnevali also can’t afford to keep chasing after Kolo Muani for much longer because there’s only so much time he and the rest of the front office can dedicate to this one player before it’s a repeat of last summer with Damien Comolli and PSG.
Maybe this does indeed end up being the last bid for Kolo Muani. And if it is, then that’s Juve drawing a line in the sand and pretty much telling one of the richest clubs in the world to take it or leave it.
