With the Notre Dame Fighting Irish taking down yet another opponent in the NC State Wolfpack, the Irish finally are at a record that fans can stomach and doesn’t look strange, 4-2. It’s not awesome, but
it begins to make sense how the Irish are firmly in the driver’s seat of controlling their own destiny to make the College Football playoff. Like the game against Boise State the previous Saturday, the start to the game was slow, allowing a tie game in the first half of 7-7. The lack of offense and controlling the game early rose some tensions and frustrations early on. Let’s take a look at some of those tensions/reactions.
Overreactions to ND vs. NC State
I love Frank (if you’re not for us, you’re against us, and he is definitely for us as an ND fan). But man he is a walking overreaction, and that is just his thing. I understand the sentiment though – the Irish could not convert on fourth downs early in the game to try to run away with it on offense. I did notice that there is usually some tomfoolery that happens when it is the Peacock game (Louisville was closer than it should have been last year, CMU same story in 2023, and Toledo in 2021). Those don’t go hand in hand, but it was looking like the offense was going to struggle on every fourth down conversion, which was frustrating
Since the defense actually did its job again, the offense caught the ire of the fans, especially the play calling on the aforementioned 4th downs. This is actually a somewhat measured reaction. Denbrock is a great coach and great fit for the team, but 4th down calls not giving the ball to arguably the best RB duo in the nation and having CJ Carr roll out multiple times was confusing as hell. Denbrock needs to continue to be reminded that this year’s team is not last year’s team, and that is ok.
The good ole bird mentioned again. Maybe I’m just not that upset or didn’t notice, but I was fine with the Peacock app. *whispers…I also have it all the time to watch The Office, B99, The Paper, and others. The officiating was objectively terrible again, so that is fine. Also, I want to say that being a fan is hard is a sentiment that is kinda silly, but not when we are all this invested. It does make sense. THIS IS FINE, EVERYTHING IS FINE
