The Houston Texans are in the process of finalizing their 53-man roster, and one notable name was cut: rookie wide receiver Lewis Bond.
Bond received rave reviews throughout the offseason, so it was somewhat surprising to see him not make the initial roster, especially considering the injuries Houston is dealing with in the wide receiver room.
You could make the argument that Bond did not make a huge impact during the preseason games, which ultimately played a role in the decision to cut him. Either
way, the Texans have decided to bring him back, and he is now on their practice squad.
It would not be surprising to see Bond active on some game days this season, especially if more injuries begin to pile up. He possesses talent that will be valuable at some point, as he continues to develop.
The wide receivers who made the initial 53-man roster are:
- Nico Collins
- Kayshon Boutte
- Jaylin Noel
- Jared Wayne
- Xavier Hutchinson
Tank Dell has been placed on injured reserve, meaning he will miss at least the first four games of the season. This makes sense considering how slowly the Texans have brought him along throughout his recovery. They are not going to rush him back, and that is absolutely the right move. The goal should be having Dell healthy and ready to contribute when the games matter most.
The Texans clearly feel comfortable with their wide receiver room, especially after the addition of Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots.
Now, only time will tell if this group has enough firepower to make a real difference for Houston’s offense in 2026.
