Michael Reschke believes Bayern Munich have struck an excellent balance with their current squad, particularly when it comes to experience and opportunities for younger players.
The former Bayern Munich technical director points out that the squad consists of three goalkeepers and 22 outfield players, with only four players aged over 30: Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and Harry Kane. Rather than viewing the age profile as a concern, Reschke sees those four veterans as exactly the type
of experienced, top-class players a squad needs.
“Currently, the squad consists of three goalkeepers and 22 outfield players. Only four of them are over 30 years old, and those four are top-class players: Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, and Harry Kane. At the same time, the squad is the right size to give the youngsters from the youth academy a chance. And Vincent Kompany has already proven that he develops such young players and gives them a chance when they deserve it,” Reschke told Abendzeitung.
That last point is particularly important.
Bayern Munich have several promising young players pushing for opportunities, and Reschke believes Kompany has already demonstrated that he will reward them when they earn it.
For Reschke, this is not simply a talented squad. It is a roster constructed with both the present and the future in mind.
