A spot on the New England Patriots’ practice squad has changed hands.
The organization announced the signing of safety Elliott Davison on Thursday afternoon. To make room for the free agent, defensive tackle Jalen Hunt has been released from the 17-man group.
Davison, 24, entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie out of UTSA in 2025. The 6-foot, 200-pound former Roadrunners defensive back spent his first regular season on the practice squad of the New Orleans Saints and was retained on a futures contract
in January. After seeing 141 snaps between defense and special teams during August preseason action, which included one start in the secondary, he cleared waivers at the league’s 53-man roster deadline last weekend.
Hunt, 25, had been among a series of additions to New England’s initial practice squad as the calendar turned to September. Prior to then, the 6-foot-2, 310-pound undrafted defensive lineman logged his rookie training camp with the Jacksonville Jaguars and went unclaimed at the cutdown. Hunt spent three seasons at Michigan State before transferring to Cincinnati for the 2024 and 2025 campaigns. He appeared in 48 games during his collegiate career while notching 48 tackles and 3.5 sacks.
The current practice squad in Foxborough also includes running backs Hassan Haskins and Lan Larison, wide receivers Kyle Dixon and Cameron Dorner, tight end Shane Zylstra, offensive linemen Jake Kubas, and Jacob Rizy, defensive linemen Eric Gregory and Jeremiah Pharms Jr., linebackers Jose Ramirez, K.J. Britt and LB Riley Wilson, defensive backs Kindle Vildor and Mike Brown, plus punter Mitch Wishnowsky.
At capacity, the Patriots also carry an exemption for German offensive tackle Lorenz Metz through the NFL’s International Player Pathway.
